A Feng Shui-inspired ritual to welcome the season of balance.
Today is a reminder to feel connected to the earth so that you can be connected with yourself. It’s no coincidence that the autumn equinox and libra season start on the same day. Libra represents the scale, a simple mechanism to balance two sides. From September 22nd until October 22nd, we welcome this symbolism while we practice our daily rituals and get in tune within ourselves and our spaces. When daylight and night are completely equal for just a moment today, we’re reminded about balance of the energy. Keep in mind that perfect balance is not the goal. It’s about being mindful of the ebb and flow of it and course correcting when and where you can.
This season offers a natural connection to yin yang, the foundation of Black Sect Tantric Buddhist (BTB) Feng Shui. Yin yang is a dynamic concept of energy. It is never completely balanced, so it’s significant when we’re at a point of equal amount of light and dark—even for just a moment. From now until the winter solstice, yin energy builds until we reach the shortest and darkest day of the year, when yin energy is most heightened. We are invited to slow down, find our grounding, and reflect. How are you turning inward to prepare for the cold season?
Yin (pronounced “in”): negative, static, female, the moon, autumn, winter, square, earth, water, night, dark, down, internal, stillness, music, descending, solid, soft, cold, and dim.
Yang (pronounced “yahng”): positive, dynamic, male, the sun, spring, summer, circle, heaven/sky, fire, day, light, up, external, movement, dancing, ascending, liquid/vapor/gas, hard, hot, and bright.
Where do you notice yin and yang showing up in your own life?
We can use these teachings as a reminder to check in with ourselves to see if we’re feeling unbalanced. What makes you feel calm? Where do you feel unbalanced? Creating harmony in our outer world often creates a sense of calmness in our inner world. Noticing your feelings and the five senses connects our bodies back to space.
Clear the way for this new season within your space with a simple ritual.
When we lean into nature, we reconnect with ourselves. As you move through this season, notice the ways balance shows up in your home, your relationships, and your breath. Each small moment of harmony is a reflection of the larger rhythm of the universe.
If this season’s reminder of balance speaks to you, I’d love to continue sharing gentle rituals and design wisdom with you. Sign up for my newsletter for seasonal reflections and simple practices you can bring into your space and life.
